Multi-Genre Post

The paper I found the most interesting was the one about video games and their impact on children. I related to this one the most because I've had experiences with these types of video games. The ones he mainly focused on were the violent sort, like Grand theft auto, and Call of Duty.My parents have seen me play these types before and questioned why I would want to play these games.
Although this topic is nowhere near the topic I will write about, it still shows how things can change the life of another and that impact can be positive or negative, and in this case it is negative.

Research Proposal

For my research project I am researching about mission work and organizations that get involved with helping those in need. The reasoning behind my choosing is because of my Mother and my church. Ever since I started going there when I was one, they have sent many people and groups to Nicaragua to help spread the word of God, and bring goods and health services to the needy. Along with my mom's experiences, I too have had an experience with helping others. I will use many events from my experiences and then also ask my Mom to share some of hers with me.

Response Number #3: Millennium Goals

Millennium Goals

I read the first goal that talked about ending Poverty and Hunger. More people should get involved with trying to end hunger. It's not just going on in some places. It is happening in your community as well. There a children and families in your area that don't have food or money to pay for quality needs in their home. I've had experience going to cities and towns where they don't have much to live off of, and it makes you really grateful for what you have. Witnessing hunger and poverty would help me out with going deeper into this topic.

Something That Matters

 Something That Matters

My first video to watch for the Something that matters was Good Spread. The story tells of these two men that decide to make their own peanut butter titled Good Spread. Their inspiration for this idea was from the CEO of the MANA nutrition group which has therapeutic peanut butter-like food to send to kids in Africa that have malnutrition problems.

This video and story stood out to me a lot because of the will and determination that these two men had to make a difference. They never gave up their dream even when chance tried to stop them. They talked about when they were on their road trip to make a difference, their van exploded. It may have paused their journey but could not put an end to it.

Next was TOHL, created by Benjamin Cohen. It is a mobile infrastructure, which supplies water to countries or regions that have had a recent disaster. Cohen started this project in 2010 after the huge Haiti earthquake. It took two year to perfect his project. He quit his job in the U.S to begin his long and hard journey. He found a place in Chile and gathered co-workers to get the job done. And after watching the video I found so much respect for his ability to take risks and his persistence. What he's doing is amazing for people in need, and it should teach us all to always work hard at our goals.

And lastly Lamon Luther, which was much like the first two. A heart warming story that shows how a person wanted to change a community for the better. This company gives homeless men a second chance and a job to get their life a jumpstart. The recreate furniture with reclaimed tools that have been given a second chance at life just like the workers. This is my personal favorite because of the comparison it has with the tools used and real life has great meaning.

Article One Response

Article One Response

After reading the article about grammar rules, I found myself relieved yet still worried about my writing. The author gave me relief when he said: "Not following them (grammar rules) doesn't make you a bad person or even (necessarily) a bad writer. But it was when he said showed all of the mistakes people make in their writing that had me worried because in my past writings every single rule applied to me.

Verb problems and parallelism are my two flaws in writing out of the several topics Yogada talked about. Now after reading this article and all of the practicing we've done in class my grammar will be improved but not perfect, yet.

Pecha Kucha

I tried to listen to Fertile Voids at first, but after the first few minutes I got bored of barely understanding her, and the bland presentation made me doze off. Since I didn't finish that presentation, I decided to listen to another one so I'd have something to write about.

My second choice was Tools for Design. It intrigued me way more than the other, his voice kept you awake and wasn't monotone like the other. Adding to his great speaking voice, the way he setup his presentation with all of his eye-popping visuals was extraordinary. Although I didn't understand half of the engineering examples he was talking about, his presentation was still excellent.

計劃生育政策: One-child Policy

計劃生育政策: One-child Policy

For many decades China has had the one child policy. A policy in which a family is only allowed one child. The policy was initiated in the late 70s to early 80s. The reasoning behind this policy is to reduce the growth rate in Chinas enormous population. Although you can only have one child, there’s an exception if you have twins.

In the late 1970s China promoted birth control due to its population rapidly approaching the one-billion mark. Later the policy was managed by National Population and Family Planning Commission under the central government since 1981, until it was taken over by the National Health and Family Planning Commission in 2013.

The policy relaxed a little for those parents within a minority race if their first born was handicapped.  If that applied to you, it was acceptable for you to have more than one child. Many girls were placed in orphanages because boys were more preferred over girls. Many preferred boys because they would keep the family name and inherit their property. During these times of male empowerment, many families would have an abortion after hearing they would be having a girl.

My correspondent for the emails to China, didn't send an email back, so I went out of the way and chose my own. I chose this because it was the one that interested me the most and I found the most information about. While reading this about this topic, I found pros and cons in this policy, so my opinion about it is neutral.
